NYCB Outreach and Education Projects
Would your local youth or adult community band benefit from a day of specialist sectional coaching?
NYCB runs workshop days with music services, youth organisations and community wind bands of all ages, anywhere in the UK. If you’re preparing for a concert, festival or competition, or simply want your players to have some specialist input for their respective instruments, our tutors can spend a day doing focused work on individual parts of your repertoire.
For young musicians who often only practise music for their private lessons, this can be a great introduction on how to practise their ensemble parts, listen to each other and pay attention to detail – especially if the band director is not very familiar with their specific instrument.
For adults who don’t usually have regular private lessons or much time to practise, this is a great opportunity to have some specialist attention relevant to their instrument and work through tricky passages that often get neglected.
Our first workshop day with Werneth Concert Band proved to be both valuable and inspiring for the musicians who were preparing for their performance at the National Concert Band Festival. As an adult community band, many of the players had not had instrumental lessons for several years (even decades!) and found the NYCB workshop day to be a hugely enjoyable and invigorating experience. They even went on to receive a Gold Award at the National Concert Band Festival and an invitation to the festival finals at the Royal Northern College of Music.
